Kampala. The Anti-Corruption Division of the High Court on Thursday December 8, 2016 engaged members of the public as part of the week-long events to mark the 2016 Anti-Corruption Week.
This year's Anti-Corruption Week, running under the theme: "Reject and report Corruption; your responsibility", started on December 2 and it will climax on December 9, 2016.
The Chief Justice, Hon. Justice Bart M. Katureebe, was among the high-profile dignitaries to grace the Court Open Day at the Court based in Kololo in Kampala, and was used as a platform to generate feedback from the public.
"The public is invited to view, learn and ask questions about anti-corruption crusade in Uganda," said Her Worship Sarah Langa Siu, the Court's Deputy Registrar, adding that the Anti-Corruption agencies would exhibit anti-corruption works.
This year's event, H/W Langa said that it would involve sessions to provide a platform for Anti-Corruption Agencies to interact on how to consolidate achievements in the fight against corruption, overcome challenges and collectively explore better strategies to eliminate corruption.
"The fight against corruption is a collective responsibility and should not be left to government alone. This year's commemorative events will focus on mobilizing public support and active participation in the fight against corruption at all levels as a way to improve public service delivery and promote national development," she said.
She said the 2016 commemoration seeks to mobilize the support of the public to be proactive in the fight against corruption.
"The main purpose is not to find fault and attribute blame but rather to work collectively to identify areas that are prone to corruption and together develop appropriate redress mechanisms," she added. Other activities for the campaign include developing and distribution of anti-corruption materials, launch of data tracking mechanism report, public dialogue and media campaign.
